Dreaming God’s Dream

A dream is a wish your heart makes, when you’re fast asleep. We all know the story of Cinderella. A girl who lost her father, was subject to the demands of her stepmom and stepsisters, and with the help of a fairy godmother, fell in love and married a prince. Now we know that this is a fairytale and that we aren’t going to turn into a pumpkin at midnight. But isn’t there something inside all of us that dreams; and knows we are created for something special and unique?

Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision from God, the people run wild, but those who adhere to God’s instruction know genuine happiness.” Dreams are an important part of what makes us get up every morning. These dreams may be anything from being a prima ballerina, traveling the world, or being married. No matter what the dream is, we all have them, and they give us vision and a purpose for life.

Dreams are given and planted, like a seed in our hearts by God. He knows exactly how to bring them to reality. He gives us gifts, talents, and strategies to fulfill those dreams. One of my favorite quotes is, ‘God doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called’. Reaching our dreams takes action and perseverance.

I remember being thirteen years old and the Lord placing a dream in my heart to work with Mercy Ministries, a home for young women struggling with life controlling issues. Fifteen years later I took the step to move to Nashville, Tennessee where my dream became a reality. The Lord had placed this dream in my heart at a young age, but I had to take some steps to get there. I had to get out of my comfort zone by moving to a completely different state, making new friends, interviewing for the position, and know that I was called to do this job. There are still other dreams I have, like wanting to be married for example, that haven’t come to pass yet.

Another aspect of dreams is that they are in God’s timing and not our own. This can be difficult especially when we want to have control and have things happen in our own way. We live in a culture where we want immediate gratification. We have to trust that God’s timing is perfect and He knows what is best for us. He doesn’t dangle dreams in front of us like a carrot. He is faithful to complete what He started.

Dream big! Ask God to reveal His dreams for you. There are no limits to your dreams.
