At our Pure Design Gala last month, I was inspired by all three young adults who came to be part of our event!! Lindsey Turner, Ben Buchanan and Heather Evans were amazing examples of “doing what you love to do”. They all live very different lives, yet they are doing things that they absolutely love and are passionate about.
Lindsey is an esthetician and makeup artist at Kenneth’s Hair Salons and Day Spas. Even though this is her career, she also is a thrift shopping addict who LOVES to teach people how to look fabulous without spending a fortune. Her online blog and at home clothing store allows her to create fashionable looks for family and friends who just don’t like shopping for themselves. Lindsey put on an AMAZING fashion show at our gala from her own collection and favorite finds. Her looks were fresh, adorable, and most affordable! She motivated all of us to create our own amazing fall looks without breaking the bank.
Former OSU Kicker Ben Buchanan spoke of his journey while attending OSU. He shared about how football has become a platform for speaking and encouraging others to go after their passions and dreams. He shared how his faith and walk with the Lord kept him strong during hard times at college. He also talked of how his family was a source of encouragement and support during stressful days and weeks and how important it is to remain connected with those who know you best. Lastly he encouraged each person to find what they are gifted in and to go for it. We all have different strengths and weaknesses, but if we embrace the things we are good at and diligently go after that, God can use us in so many different arenas. Ben hopes to go into broadcasting and further develop his skills within the sports arena. He’s currently on television on game days as a sport’s analyst.
Heather Evans ended the evening with some powerful original songs she has written. As a stay at home mom to her adorable son, she has watched God open amazing opportunities for her to use her gifts and talents in music. She has become an advocate for human trafficking and continues to pursue avenues on speaking out against this injustice. Heather’s spunk and creativity exudes from the stage as she performs. Heather started playing guitar and writing songs when she was only 13 years old. She is an amazing example of how we can be used by God in an area we are most passionate about.
What I was most struck by is that all three people are doing what they love and they have found ways to make it happen. Lindsey created her own blog and sells clothes on the side because it is simply what she LOVES to do. Ben has allowed his position with the OSU football team to give him a platform to build towards a career in broadcasting. Heather, as a stay at home mom has ventured out and written songs and done music videos… they are ALL cooperating with God and creating opportunities to walk out their own personal passions and dreams!! How inspiring!!
I hope those of you who were able to attend were provoked by all of three of these amazing talents!! For those who couldn’t be there… may you be encouraged to run after the dreams and desires of your heart.
Submit your plans to God, and see what amazing opportunities He will create for you!!
