Summertime. One of my favorite seasons. It is a time to relax, spend time by the pool with friends, and let’s be honest eat lots and lots of ice cream (Buckeye Madness is an Ohio favorite…yum!). Summer can be a time where we stop and take time to enjoy life just a little more. We are more carefree and can be ourselves without a lot of other demands of life. This season has taught me what it means to live day by day and to take time to focus on the important things of life.

Living day by day can be exciting because it gives a sense of adventure. It allows us to get up and look at each day with new possibilities and opportunities. It’s like when we wake up on Christmas morning and wonder what is going to be under the tree. I have experienced this in the season where I have not had a full-time job. While scary at times, it has allowed me to be open each day to what the Lord has. Living day by day also allows us to step back and see the blessings in each individual day. When we are focused on all that we have to do or get done, we often forget miss out on what is right in front of us. Things like our family, friends, or the warmth of the sun by the pool.

Living day by day also helps to develop trust in God for what we need. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Place your trust in the Eternal; rely on Him completely; never depend upon your own ideas and inventions. Give Him the credit for everything you accomplish, and He will smooth out and straighten the road that lies ahead.” When we put our trust in God with the details of our lives and allow Him to take care of it, we are able to relax and rest, knowing that He has everything under control. This means everything from our friendships to our future. He has great plans for our lives.

Take time to live in the moment and count your blessings. You will be surprised by how much joy it will bring!
